Why some items are excluded from this site
Some items of jewellery have been excluded from this site because they may be made from materials that are gathered in such a way as to cause harm to the environment or possibly to the wildlife.
Elephant hair
Jewellery made from elephant's hair is perfectly acceptable provided you can be certain the hair was gathered in the same way as you might gather sheep's wool from a fence. Sadly there are some people who always spoil the party and through my research I have learned that some of the hair used to make bracelets is gathered from animals that have been poached. Although firm assurances are always given that the materials were gathered legally there is no way of knowing for certain. I'm sure that many of these items are legitimate but I have decided to exclude anything with elephant hair from the site.
Porcupine Quills
These are supposed to be gathered when the porcupine releases the quills under attack. Unfortunately for the porcupine this is a fairly rare occurance and this has led to large numbers of porcupines being killed for their quills.

Amber
A lot of amber is extracted from the Baltic sea in a way that's very harmful to the environment. Apart from the mining process itself the sea in the area is heavily polluted and has destroyed the sea-life in its wake. Although some amber jewellery is crafted from materials gathered more ethically I have also excluded amber from the site.
Finally, if you come across anything on this site that may have come from a dodgy source please let me know.
